"Joaquín Torres García (28 July 1874 – 8 August 1949) , was a Uruguayan plastic artist and art theorist, also known as the founder of Constructive Universalism. In 1979, most of his works were destroyed in a fire that caught the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, while a large exhibition of the artist was being held.

American Couple Shot

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – An infant in a car seat survived a hail of bullets that killed her American parents who were U.S. consular employees returning from a children’s party yesterday, March 14.

The woman was shot in the head, while her husband suffered wounds in his neck and arm. Their baby girl, who appeared to be about 1 year old, was found unharmed in the back seat, said Vladimir Tuexi, a spokesman for the Chihuahua state prosecutors office.

The pair was identified as consular employee Lesley A. Enriquez, 35, and her husband, Arthur H. Redelfs, 34. Enriquez's family is prominent in Ciudad Juarez; her father was once honorary consul for Belgium.

Mexican authorities has put suspicion on the Aztecas street gang allied with the Juarez drug cartel gangsters for chasing down and opening fire on the American couple and the Mexican man who were all killed when travelling in similar vehicles — white sport utility vehicles.

While the reason for the attacks remain unclear, authorities said the attack was based on “information exchanged with U.S. federal agencies.”

The Associated Press reported the State Department said it would compensate U.S. government employees at Ciudad Juarez and five other U.S. consulates in northern Mexico who decide to send family members out of the area because of concerns about rising drug violence. The cities are Tijuana, Nogales, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey and Matamoros.

The atmosphere of violence in Juarez had been creeping closer to U.S. offices for some time: on Friday, the consulate put a bar just around the block from its office off limits to U.S. government personnel "due to security concerns."

Básicamente esta versión incorpora cambios de estabilidad y se quitaron programas que ya fueron “superados” por otros en su misma función. Se ha pasado todos los paquetes a la rama Debian Stable, y se usaron backports para actualizar programas como Pidigin 2.5.8(y muchos plugins), se actualizo Firefox (a Swiftfox 3.5.1), nmap 5.00, TOR, reemplazado network-manager por WiCd agregados scripts de batalla (nikto, spike) Truecrypt 6.2a, se corrigió error de udev, firestarter. Se cambio el estilo y los colores a un estilo más moderno, manteniendo la velocidad de KDE3.5, se agregan funciones y nuevos comandos o acceso rápidos para Estrella Roja, entre otras mejoras.

Principios y antecedentes de SLUM

El antecedente directo de SLUM (Software Libre, Usuarios Militantes) es GELUM (Grupo de Usuarios Libres de UTN Mar del Plata), una agrupación estudiantil universitaria que planteaba al Software Libre como una cuestión social y política y que fue perseguido y amenazado por autoridades de UTN por hablar en contra del convenio que esta institución mantiene con Microsoft, y por llamar a sus estudiantes a unirse y luchar por sus derechos. La persecución política y amenazas de los directivos hicieron que GELUM se disolviera.

La fundación de SLUM se dio en la visita de Richard M. Stallman, iniciador del movimiento de Software Libre a Mar del Plata, el 1 de Septiembre de 2009, en medio de su charla: "El Software Libre en la Ética y el la Práctica. Y una Formación Universitaria Libre", que fue organizada originalmente por GELUM y que había sido planeada darse dentro de la UTN, antes de que las autoridades de la institución la suspendieran.

SLUM surge como respuesta a la necesidad de encauzar al Software Libre desde un punto de vista político revolucionario y socialista. Partiendo de la base de que el Software, como producto de las fuerzas productivas del hombre debe ser analizado desde una perspectiva marxista de clase.

Antonio Frasconi

Born in 1919 and raised in Uruguay, Antonio Frasconi emigrated to the United States in 1945 to study at the Art Students League in New York. Within a decade, he had established himself as one of the foremost graphic artists of his generation. Frasconi is especially noted for his exceptional woodcuts, which pair a poetic sympathy for the human spirit with bold social commentary. His work is in the collection of several major museums including MoMA, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the Brooklyn Museum. Davidson Galleries is proud to present an exhibition of Frasconi’s early woodcuts and woodcut posters during the months of March and April. This is the artist’s first exhibition in the Northwest.
